Guns in the Kitchen

Guns in the Kitchen
Old photos contain clues about the past. Next time you look at one, think about the following to get the full picture:

The first thing I notice in the photo is that there are weapons on the wall. The reason for this photo might be  that the photographer wanted to remember his flat forever.

Clues in this picture which gives you ideas of how old it is can be seen by the old fashioned stove and furniture and the date on the photo. In this case, the photo was taken in the 1880s.
Probably the two other people who lived here are watching the photographer taking this photo.
I can see some weapons along with some plates and cups on the shelf in the background.

I think outside the frame we can see there are no woman living here. It is like a man cave.

My day at Te Oro

Yesterday we went to Te Oro in GI to see some of the arts that Sommerville did this term. We went into a private van to get there. John was the driver of the van. When we got there we went inside and we first saw our contribution. We made a fake polluted sea with rubbish all over the sealing and on the ground. We also made fake blow fishes and eels for it. After that I went and saw some stuff like more arts, sculptures and I even made a cultural gift bag with Shelley’s class. Then I went and saw the little ones doing a performance. After that I went back in the van and went back to school. I had a really awesome time at Te Oro.

Turning bush into Butter

Turning bush into Butter!

This photograph was taken at Winiata near Taihape and it was an informal family photograph. The difference between this photo and the one on page nine is that this photo is much more informal. You can see cows, a cat and some dogs. The mother and father in this photo are milking cows. The nationality of the family is Maori. The photographer of this photo is Edward George Child. They were burning down some of the trees in the bush so they could make more room for the cows. The quicker way of getting rid of a native bush was burning down the trees. The two stories told by this photo is the hard work that went into making and running a farm and also the impact of that hard work on their forests. The hill in the background shows a few of the trees that are still alive.

My day at the Basketball tournament

On Thursday 14th September we went to the Special Olympics Basketball tommet at ASB Stadium. First we got changed into nice clean Sommerville PE gear. I went in Val's car. When we get there,we got into our teams. Our teams were Stormers, Wildcats and Thunders. I was in the Stormers team. But first I was up in the seating area watching the other teams play. Then my first game started, so I went back down and played my first game. We won 3 games out of 4. We came 2nd overall in our division. After the first game I watched matches with Sunnyden and two other schools. I had a really fun time at the Basketball tournament.

Making a blowfish in class

In week two our class made Blowfishes. First we had to blow a balloon up. I blew my balloon up but I couldn't knot it so I had to get Mina to help me do it. Then we had to glue newspapers onto them. Next we painted them. I painted my blowfish green. After that we put some wet and sticky paper onto our blowfish to make it’s mouth. We put on two paper eyes. Next we put on two paper fins. Then we put on a paper tail on it’s back. After that we left it for a few days before they were done. Now they are all ready to be shown at Te-Oro.
