Turning bush into Butter!
This photograph was taken at Winiata near Taihape and it was an informal family photograph. The difference between this photo and the one on page nine is that this photo is much more informal. You can see cows, a cat and some dogs. The mother and father in this photo are milking cows. The nationality of the family is Maori. The photographer of this photo is Edward George Child. They were burning down some of the trees in the bush so they could make more room for the cows. The quicker way of getting rid of a native bush was burning down the trees. The two stories told by this photo is the hard work that went into making and running a farm and also the impact of that hard work on their forests. The hill in the background shows a few of the trees that are still alive.
